System Assessment
System Assessment is a necessary step in your virtualization process in our Green
IT program. For the purpose of virtualizing your company's servers, a infrastructure
analysis and server assessment should be done to determine how many virtual server
hosts you will need to consolidate your current servers and redefine the placement
of current physical machines on virtual servers.
The steps we will take:
- Discovery and inventory of client and server machines.
- Assessment of machines in environment to support server virtualization
- Inventory of installed applications, database and system components
To understand the capacity requirements and growing needs, the MidTech System Administrator
team collects performance data by
- Performing an infrastructure assessment to get inventory of current system
- Conducting detailed monitoring of:
- physical and logic disk performance counters
- network utilization
- processor utilization
- computer memory utilization
- Conducting performance monitoring over a long period of time
We combine automation and manual processes to design the best solution for your
data center optimization needs. As one of our major deliverables from the assessment,
we document our current IT infrastructure and provide detailed reports and proposals
describing which servers can be virtualized and on which virtual server host computers
the consolidation process can be carried, plus what you need for new purchase.
